St Leger Odds, Betting, & Markets at talkSPORT BET

The St Leger is a Group 1 flat horse race at Doncaster and the third and final opportunity for any horse to win the famous Triple Crown.

The last horse to achieve this feat was Nijinsky in 1970, while Bahram, Gainsborough, and Gay Crusader, among a few others, romped to victory at Doncaster to secure the Triple Crown before him.

If you’re keen to bet on the St Leger, read on for the best odds, betting options, and markets at talkSPORT BET Sportsbook. We also reveal some expert tips and insights that may help you pick the winner of this year’s race.

Introducing the St Leger

The St Leger Stakes is Britain’s oldest Classic horse race, first run in 1776. Held annually at Doncaster Racecourse, it is the final leg of the English Triple Crown, following the 2000 Guineas and the Epsom Derby.

The race covers a distance of one mile, six furlongs and 115 yards and is open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. Known for testing stamina and class, the St Leger is a prestigious British flat racing calendar event.

When is the St Leger?

This year’s St Leger is scheduled for September. The race is part of a four-day festival, running from Thursday, September 12th, to Sunday, September 15th, 2025. St Leger Day itself is Saturday, September 13th, when the Classic race takes place.

Here’s the calendar for the 2025 race:

  • Day 1: Ladies Day
  • Day 2: Doncaster Cup Day
  • Day 3: St Leger Day
  • Day 4: Sunday Funday

Previous Winners of the St Leger

As the St Leger is only open to three-year-old runners, no horse has ever won the race more than once. That said, legendary horses like Nijinsky (1970), Commanche Run (1984), and Oh So Sharp (1985), the latter being an English Fillies’ Triple Crown Winner, have all won this race.

Here’s a list of the last ten winners of the St Leger, including their riders and trainers:

St Leger Runners & Riders – Who Will Win in 2025?

The winner of the 2025 Epsom Derby, Lambourn, is among the favourites to win the St Leger. He went off as the third favourite and had too much for his stablemate, Delacroix, under Ryan Moore, who was the pre-race favourite.

If Lambourn wins the St Leger in 2025, he will become the first horse since Camelot in 2012 to win two of the British Triple Crown horse races.

Next in the running is Tennessee Stud, who finished third in this year’s Derby. As a 28/1 long shot before the Derby, Tennessee Stud proved great value for each-way bettors, and this could be the case again ahead of the St Leger.

Lazy Griff is again well priced in the ante-post market before the St Leger. Unfancied at 50/1 before the Derby, Lazy Griff tracked the leaders inside and stayed on for a clear second-place finish.

You can access the latest odds for all the 2025 St Leger runners at the top of this page. Please be mindful that our ante-post odds are subject to change right up to race day.

St Leger Betting Options & Markets

The easiest way to bet on the St Leger is to back any horse to win outright. In this market, the horse must win the race for you to receive a payout.

Alternatively, place an each-way bet on this year’s St Leger. At talkSPORT BET, we pay 1/5 if your horse finishes in the top three places.

You may also place exotic bets on horse racing at talkSPORT BET, including Trixies and Goliaths. Use our Bet Calculator to work out your odds if you go down this route.

St Leger 2025 Tips & Predictions

Here are a few expert insights and tips from our experts to apply to your St Leger 2025 betting strategy:

  • Look to the Great Voltigeur for performance and form. Fifteen horses have won the Great Voltigeur and St Leger in the same season, including Continuous in 2023. It’s a good way of determining a horse’s value in the weeks leading up to the St Leger.
  • Don’t blindly back the favourite. Only three favourites have won the race since 2019 – Jan Brueghel (JF), Hurricane Lane, and Logician. So, while Lambourn looks good this year, do your research and look elsewhere in the field, too.
  • Consider a runner from the Aidan O’Brien Stable. AP has trained the last two St Leger winners – Jan Brueghel and Continuous and has an excellent pedigree in this race, training four of the last ten winning horses. He will have numerous runners in this race, including the favourite, Lambourn.
