Four teams gain promotion from League Two every season, making the promotion outright betting market highly attractive.

Top Three Finish  

Anything can happen at the top of League Two. Last season, for instance, Walsall looked all but guaranteed to gain promotion automatically, before losing out on the season's final day.  

They were then beaten by AFC Wimbledon in the showpiece playoff final at Wembley Stadium, much to the surprise of practically everyone who followed League Two last year. 

So, if you want to bet on teams to get promoted from League Two while taking the playoffs out of the equation, wagering on a team to finish in the top three is a good option.  

This season’s front runners are MK Dons, Chesterfield, Notts County, Gillingham, and Bristol Rovers, who will all be keen to step up to League One.  

Top Seven Finish  

While the top six teams in the Championship and League One get promoted or qualify for the playoffs, seven compete for promotion in League Two.  

Therefore, you can bet on any team in the division to secure a top-seven place, and even some of the least-fancied teams in the league harbour pre-season aspirations of doing just that.   

Aside from the teams we’ve already mentioned, Colchester United will be keen to improve on their tenth-placed finish last season and could be a good outside bet. The same is true of Grimsby, who surpassed many preseason aspirations by finishing ninth last time out.  

Top Half Finish  

If you feel like the playoffs are too tight to call, but you still have a good feeling about a team’s performance in the 2024/25 League Two campaign, you can bet on them to finish in the top half of the table. As 24 teams compete in League Two, your chosen team only needs to finish in the top 12 for you to win your bet.   

For instance, if you fancy Barnet to secure a top-half finish on their return to the Football League, they’re a great option for this market. Oldham Athletic, a former Premier League team, will also compete in League Two next season, and could be another good option for a top-half finish wager. 

Bottom Two Finish 

Of all the professional football leagues in England, the trap door at the bottom of League Two is the most precarious.  

After all, if a team drops out of the football league, it’s incredibly difficult to return at the first time of asking, so teams do everything they can to avoid the bottom two places each season.   

Still, someone has to get relegated, and you can bet on the team you think will end up in the National League at the end of the campaign. 

Newport County and Accrington Stanley will be watching over their shoulders this season, as they narrowly escaped relegation in 2024/25. They could be good options if you want to bet on teams to drop down into the National League at the end of this campaign.  

Top Goalscorer  

Rather than betting on a team’s performance in the 2024/25 League Two campaign, you can bet on the player you think will score the most goals this season, and there are some sharpshooters to back again this season.  

Bromley legend Michael Cheek showed he was just as capable in League Two as in the National League, bagging 25 goals last season to end the campaign top of the charts. He’s among the favourites to be the League Two top scorer again this season.  

Veteran forward David McGoldrick has another season in him for Notts County, and he found the net 17 times in 2024/25, so he could be another excellent option for this market in the 2025/26 season.
