2000 Guineas Stakes Odds & Betting Options

The arrival of the Guineas Meeting signifies the start of the British flat racing season, and Newmarket is packed to the rafters as racegoers look forward to a weekend of outstanding racing.

The 2000 Guineas, open to three-year-old colts and fillies, is a short flat race on a testing track. It’s a race that every jockey wants to win, thanks to its prestige and considerable purse, which is far beyond the 2000 Guineas originally offered to the winner.

At talkSPORT BET, you’ll get competitive odds ahead of the 2000 Guineas. Discover your horse racing betting options and find out how to bet on this legendary British race.

Introducing the 2000 Guineas

The 2000 Guineas Stakes is one of Britain’s oldest horse races, first run in 1809. It takes place each spring at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile, often called the “Home of Racing.”

Run over one mile, the race is restricted to three-year-old colts and fillies and traditionally marks the start of the flat racing Classics season in the UK.

The Rowley Mile is a testing, straight track with a steady climb before a famous dip and a stiff uphill finish, emphasising balance and tactical speed.

The race has launched the careers of many legendary horses, including Nijinsky, Sea The Stars, and Frankel. Winning the 2000 Guineas is a major indicator of future success and is the first step toward the prestigious Triple Crown.

When and Where is the 2000 Guineas?

The 2000 Guineas usually takes place on the first Saturday of May. It’s the main event of the Guineas Meeting (sometimes called the Guineas Festival) and takes place the day before the 1000 Guineas.

The race is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk. There’s a purse of £525,000, with the winner due £297,728.

2000 Guineas Previous Winners

As the 2000 Guineas is only open to three-year-old horses, no runner has ever won this race more than once.

In 2025, Ruling Court secured a second consecutive 2000 Guineas triumph for William Buick and Charlie Appleby, following Notable Speech’s win in 2024.

It was a double-winning year for Godolphin, who also saw Desert Flower romp home in the 1000 Guineas Stakes.

Frankie Dettori, who won the 2000 Guineas four times in his glittering career, rode Chaldean to a stunning victory in 2023 for Andrew Balding, surely the last of his outings at Newmarket.

Record Holders: 2000 Guineas Top Trainers & Jockeys

As you can’t look to previous winning horses to inform your betting strategy ahead of the 2000 Guineas, it helps to consider which jockeys and trainers have previous in this flat racing Classic.

Jem Robinson remains the leading jockey in this race’s 200+ year history, with nine wins between 1825 and 1848.

Of the current crop of jockeys, William Buick seems to have mastered the Rowley Mile, with consecutive wins in the 2000 Guineas in 2024 and 2025.

Since 2010, Donnacha O’Brien (2018 & 2019), Ryan Moore (2015 & 2017), Kevin Manning (2013 & 2021), and Frankie Dettori (2016 & 2023) are the only other jockeys to have won the 2000 Guineas more than once.

As for trainers, Aidan O’Brien has produced more winners than any other stable in this race’s long history, with 10 wins. That said, O’Brien hasn’t won the 2000 Guineas since Grecia stormed home in 2019.

Charlie Appleby has three wins in four, triumphing with Coroebus (2022), Notable Speech (2024), and Ruling Court (2025), while Andrew Balding has won twice since 2020 (Kameko in 2020 & Chaldean in 2023).

While any of the major stables can produce a 2000 Guineas winner, focusing your attention on runners from O’Brien, Appleby, and Balding could be a good strategy ahead of this year’s race.
