When is the 2026 French Open?

The French Open, one of tennis's four prestigious Grand Slam tournaments, takes place each year at Roland Garros in Paris.

Scheduled for 2026, the event will be held from 24th May to 7th June. Known for its challenging clay courts, it is part of the sport's elite calendar alongside the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

Everything You Need to Know About the French Open

Many players and fans regard the French Open as the toughest of the four Grand Slam events, due to the hard clay courts and tough conditions in Paris.

The French Open has been played on clay courts in the French capital since 1908, and Rafael Nadal is the most successful male player of all time, with 14 wins to his name. In the women’s singles, Chris Evert has the most wins, with seven triumphs at Roland Garros.

Like each of the Grand Slam events, a massive prize pool is offered at Roland Garros, with over €53,000,000 expected to be shared between the top players in the world. This is also a crucial WTA and ATP ranking event, so those who go well will jump up the world rankings.

Before the event begins on May 25th, the qualifying rounds will play out in Paris between May 19th and 23rd. Players who aren’t ranked highly enough in the WTA and ATP standings will compete in the qualifiers, while wild cards from France may also be offered. Sixteen men and 16 women will make the French Open via the qualifiers.

Previous Winners of the French Open

Alcaraz and Świątek are the defending champions of the French Open in 2026. Alcaraz will be looking for his second Roland Garros Crown this year, while Świątek will compete for her fifth overall singles title, and her fourth in a row, such has been her recent dominance.

Alcaraz will arrive in Paris in fine fettle, following his win over world number one Jannik Sinner in the Italian Open. Świątek, on the other hand, hasn’t had a great clay-court season, missing out on the Madrid and Italian Opens, which she usually does well in.

Elsewhere in the field, if you’re keen to back a previous winner to triumph in Paris this June, here are the last ten winners of the men’s and women’s singles titles at the French Open:

Year Men’s Singles Champion Women’s Singles Champion
2025 Carlos Alcaraz Coco Gauff
2024 Carlos Alcaraz Iga Świątek
2023 Novak Djokovic Iga Świątek
2022 Rafael Nadal Iga Świątek
2021 Novak Djokovic Barbora Krejčíková
2020 Rafael Nadal Iga Świątek
2019 Rafael Nadal Ashleigh Barty
2018 Rafael Nadal Simona Halep
2017 Rafael Nadal Jeļena Ostapenko
2016 Novak Djokovic Garbiñe Muguruza
2015 Stan Wawrinka Serena Williams

Betting Tips & Odds for the 2026 French Open: Who Will Triumph?

Let’s start with the world number one. Jannik Sinner recently returned to the court following his three-month ban, and he nearly won the Italian Open for his second win of 2026. He looked in good shape in Rome and is well priced ahead of the French Open at 6/4*, though he has never progressed further than the semi-final at Roland Garros and will need to improve his record.

Carlos Alcaraz is the main man to watch in the singles and is the favourite to win the 2026 French Open at 11/8*. He’s widely regarded as the heir to Rafael Nadal and could easily become the greatest player of his generation. He’s had a promising start to 2026, too, so don’t rule out another Grand Slam triumph for the Spaniard in Roland Garros.

In the women’s tournament, we can’t look beyond clay-court specialist Iga Świątek (5/2*) for the 2026 French Open. Though she’s dropped to number four in the world rankings and hasn’t had the best of seasons, she saves her best tennis for Paris. If she wins in 2026, she will move to within two triumphs of Chris Evert’s record at Roland Garros, which she will surely surpass in what remains of her career.

Elsewhere, world number one Aryna Sabalenka will be the other main contender in Paris. Like Sinner, Sabalenka has never progressed beyond the semi-final of the French Open, but with three Grand Slam titles already, she knows what it means to win on the biggest stage, and we’ve priced her at 5/2*. Coco Gauff is also playing great tennis right now, and she’s a handy clay player who could do well this summer in Paris. The American is available at 11/2* at talkSPORT BET.

Bet on the Latest French Open Odds Online

Choose talkSPORT BET as your number one destination for competitive French Open odds online. We offer a host of tennis betting markets every year at Roland Garros, as the world’s best male and female tennis stars do battle on the iconic clay courts of Paris.

Whether you prefer a long-term bet on the French Open by picking the next potential winner or enjoy betting on specific matches throughout the tournament, talkSPORT BET has got you covered. Below, we’ll explain the most popular French Open betting markets open to new and existing customers on desktop and mobile devices.

Why Bet on the French Open?

The French Open is one of the four biggest tennis tournaments in the calendar year. It’s the second Grand Slam of the season after the Australian Open in January. The fact that it’s played on clay makes for an intriguing challenge, with the gruelling and unpredictable surface often resulting in many unexpected results at Roland Garros.

It’s also worth noting that clay court matches tend to produce longer rallies, given the slower nature of the surface. Therefore, this tournament is typically a battle of wills and physical durability in both men’s and women’s draws. Those with the technique to hang in there during lengthy rallies will typically fare better than big servers who prefer to keep points shorter.

The Most Popular French Open Betting Markets

Outright Winner

The simplest market of them all, the French Open Outright Winner market requires you to pick the next tournament winner at Roland Garros. At talkSPORT BET, we offer Outright Winner markets for both the men’s and women’s draws. It’s possible to back your selection in this market each way too. This means that even if they reach the final and lose, you’ll be paid out at 1/4 of the original odds displayed.

Match Betting

We also allow you to bet on specific matches throughout the French Open. From the first-round draw to the final, we cover every set of the action at Roland Garros. It’s as simple as betting on the Match Odds markets in football or the Moneyline in the NFL. Just bet on the player you think will win in their upcoming match.

Set Betting

You can get even more granular with your French Open tennis betting, too. At talkSPORT BET, we offer set betting markets throughout the men’s and women’s tournaments. This means you can bet on the final result in sets won per player. For instance, you can bet on Player A, winning 3-1 in sets or 3-2 in sets. Remember – the French Open is a best-of-five-set competition, so this leads to even more set betting permutations!

Set Handicap Betting

Explore our Set Handicap Betting markets which balance match-ups between favourites and underdogs. Use these markets to find value on the underdog by backing them to win with a pre-match set handicap applied in their favour.

Set Correct Score Betting

Another favoured prop bet in tennis Grand Slams like the French Open is predicting set scores. Whether you anticipate a dominant start or a closely contested match, betting on specific set outcomes adds excitement to even the lowest-profile first-round games.

History of the French Open

The French Open stands proudly as one of the most gruelling and prestigious tennis tournaments on the planet. Dating back to 1891, when the inaugural event was staged at the Stade Francais Club in the French capital, its unique clay courts present a very different test of skill and stamina for the world’s elite tennis players on the ATP and WTA circuits.

The tournament was originally a men’s event, but women’s singles and doubles events were established in 1897. The venue for the French Open, Roland Garros, is named after a French World War I hero due to his love of tennis and his commitment to his beloved nation.

Throughout the French Open’s history, it has been a stage for many legendary matches and moments. From the dominance of clay court specialists like Rafael Nadal, with a record 14 French Open titles to his name, to the shock underdog titles of Gustavo Kuerten and Gaston Gaudio in 1997 and 2004, respectively, this tournament delivers year in, year out.

In recent times, the French Open has tried hard to futureproof itself while retaining its quintessential traditions. The addition of a retractable roof to Court Philippe-Chatrier in 2020 has since ensured games to be played on its number-one court whatever the weather.

It remains the only Grand Slam in tennis to be played on clay. This surface results in greatly reduced ball speeds and significantly higher bounces, typically playing into the hands of those with supreme technique and endurance.
