As the race gets ever closer, the odds will fluctuate, and the runners might change, but why not glance at the early Epsom Derby odds to learn more about the horses and how they’ve performed lately?
Delacroix – 5/2*
With his excellent performances at Leopardstown in March and May, Aidan O’Brien’s Delacroix has emerged as the favourite for the 2025 Epsom Derby.
His double Class 1 Leopardstown wins under Ryan Moore and Wayne Lordan have shown everyone what he is capable of at this distance, and he is O’Brien’s likeliest winner at Epsom this year.
Ruling Court – 3/1*
Like Delacroix, Ruling Court is coming off the back of two impressive wins in March and May. His first, at the Jumeirah 2000 Guineas at Meydan, was a big win for Charlie Appleby and a sign of things to come for the Kentucky-bred bay colt.
Almost exactly two months later, Ruling Court won the 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket, once again under the talented William Buick. Ruling Court looks primed for the 2025 Derby if form is anything to go by.
The Lion In Winter – 4/1*
Though he missed out on the Dewhurst Stakes due to injury, Aidan O’Brien’s The Lion In Winter is much fancied ahead of the 2025 Derby. He went well in his maiden race at The Curragh last July, followed by a win in the Acomb Stakes at York soon after.
Though disappointing in his sixth-place finish in the Dante Stakes in May, The Lion In Winter is attractively priced and could go well at Epsom this June.
Pride of Arras – 9/2*
While The Lion In Winter disappointed in the Dante Stakes, Pride of Arras was the surprise winner, with a starting price of 18/1. Under Rossa Ryan for Ralph Beckett, Pride of Arras won by a length and a quarter and saw his Derby odds shorten dramatically as a result.
It was Pride of Arras’ second win under Ryan, following their triumph on debut in August last year at Sandown Park.
Twain – 8/1*
Twain was imperious in his maiden run at Leopardstown in October, starting at 28/1 and finishing six lengths clear of his rivals. This performance propelled him to the forefront of the Epsom Derby betting markets, and his win at Saint-Cloud six days later under Ryan Moore did little to crush the optimism surrounding him.
Another Aidan O’Brien runner, Twain could be a smart each-way bet ahead of the 2025 Derby.
