The Australian Open, which is the first Grand Slam event of the calendar year, has been won by the great and good of tennis – although there have been occasional shock champions over the years too, which perhaps explains why this tournament is so intriguing to punters.
Played at the sprawling Melbourne Park, the names Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Sabalenka and Osaka have been liberally etched onto the men’s and women’s singles trophies in recent times, but will somebody new be crowned champion in 2026?
This is your guide to the Australian Open from a betting perspective. How do you bet on the tournament? Which bookmaker offers the best AO Betting Odds (spoiler alert: it’s talkSPORT BET)? Who are the players to watch out for in 2026?
The answers to those questions – and more – are revealed below…
There are so many different ways to wager on the Australian Open betting odds, it’s simply a case of finding the right market that you enjoy – or finding the best value within the prices available.
To get you started, here’s a look at some of the ways you can bet on Australian Open tennis.
Before we get onto the different match betting markets, it’s worth remembering that you can also wager on who you think will win the Australian Open outright.
There are outright Australian Open odds for both the men’s and women’s singles events, with the option of each-way betting ensuring that you will score a return even if your selected player goes on to lose in the final.
The most popular of the Australian Open tennis odds to bet on tends to be the match-winner market, which is exactly as it sounds: backing the player you think will prevail. You bet on singles, doubles, trebles, or accumulators as you wish.
An extension of Australian Open betting is to take a deep dive into the markets within each match. Here are just some of the options you can explore:
For those who bet on Australian Open tennis for the first time, one of the markets that can confuse them is handicap betting.
This simply adds a hypothetical set or game tally onto that which actually unfolds in the match. So let’s say Novak Djokovic has a -1.5 set handicap against Carlos Alcaraz. If Djokovic wins the match 3-0 or 3-1, your handicap bet would win because we subtract 1.5 from the actual scoreline – leaving a hypothetical 1.5-0 or 1.5-1 result.
You can do the same with game handicap betting. If Djokovic has a -6.5 game handicap and the match ends 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in his favour, your wager wins because he has won by nine games – if he had won by six games or fewer, or lost the match entirely, then the bet would have been settled as a loss.

The Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer monopoly on men’s tennis well and truly extended to the Australian Open, with the trio winning an incredible 17 of the last 19 editions of the event.
The anomalies? Stan Wawrinka’s four-set defeat of Nadal back in 2014 and Jannik Sinner’s triumph over Daniil Medvedev in the 2024 Australian Open. Remarkably, 2024 was the first Australian Open final not to feature Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer since 2005, when Marat Safin defeated Lleyton Hewitt.
In more recent times, it’s Djokovic who has dominated at Melbourne Park. He’s won six of the last ten editions of the event, with three of those coming in the last five years.
As for the women’s title, it has been a much more wide-open contest in recent years. Naomi Osaka, Serena Williams, and Victoria Azarenka are all two-time champions since 2012, but plenty of others have got their hands on the trophy at least once in that timeframe – Caroline Wozniacki (2018), Sofia Kenin (2020), Ashleigh Barty (2022) and Aryna Sabalenka (2023) among them.
Aryna Sabalenka successfully defended her title in the 2024 Australian Open, defeating the Chinese Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-2 in the final. She followed in the footsteps of fellow Belarussian Victoria Azarenka, who was the last female tennis player to defend her Australian Open crown, with successive wins in 2012 and 2013.
Sinner is the current favourite to win the Australian Open, available at 11/5*. The Italian is the current world number one and will look to start the 2025 season with a bang at Melbourne Park.
He is followed by Carlos Alcaraz (5/2*), Djokovic (3/1*), Medvedev (7/1*), and Alexander Zverev (10/1*).
In the women’s tournament, defending champion Sabalenka is the 11/5* favourite to make it three successive wins at the Australian Open. Polish sensation Iga Swiatek is the joint second favourite alongside Coco Gauff at 9/2*. Other favourites include Elena Rybakina and Qinwen Zheng, both available at 9/1*.
Whether you bet on the favourites or opt for an outsider or two, be sure to make the most of the fantastic offers available to new and existing players right here at talkSPORT BET.
