The IPL crams an awful lot into 20 overs. A new batter can walk in, clear the rope twice and change the price of a match before the crowd has settled. A bowler can answer with two yorkers and turn it back again. Our cricket betting section brings the available Indian Premier League odds together with markets from international and domestic cricket.
Before the season, most attention falls on the outright winner. Once the fixtures begin, individual match and player markets take over. There may also be in-play options as an innings develops. If you fancy a different sport between IPL games, browse the full sports betting schedule.
The Indian Premier League is India's annual franchise T20 competition. Back in 2008, its cocktail of city teams, auctions, overseas stars and India's best players felt genuinely new. It did not stay a novelty for long. The IPL soon claimed a prime place in cricket's calendar, with leading internationals arranging much of their year around it.
Both teams receive one innings, capped at 20 overs, and the larger score takes the match. Rain can introduce a revised target, while a tie may lead to a Super Over. A starting XI can contain no more than four overseas players. That restriction is why a clever auction matters: simply collecting famous imports will not produce a balanced side.
Nor does every franchise chase runs in the same fashion. One may try to break a game open during the powerplay. Another might protect wickets and unleash its finishers late. A third backs its bowlers to defend totals that look slightly below par. Team identity often reveals more than the number of star names in a squad.
There is no official 2027 IPL fixture list yet. March to May is the usual window, but exact dates, grounds and pairings remain unconfirmed until the organisers publish the schedule.
That schedule is worth waiting for. Some franchises divide home games between two grounds. Add India's size and contrasting pitches, and the order of those journeys begins to matter. Cricket in Chennai may ask a different question from a night game in Bengaluru. The full list can therefore improve or weaken an early judgement about the outright market.
For context, the 2026 competition ran from 28 March until 31 May and featured 74 games. Royal Challengers Bengaluru went back-to-back by chasing down Gujarat Titans in the Ahmedabad final with five wickets to spare. Virat Kohli stayed there to the end, making 75 not out from 42 deliveries. Only two franchises had previously defended an IPL crown.
The current IPL line-up contains these ten franchises:
Five trophies apiece put Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at the top of the roll of honour. Kolkata Knight Riders sit next on three. RCB's consecutive wins in 2025 and 2026 moved them to two.
The inaugural trophy went to Rajasthan Royals in 2008. Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad have one championship each as well. Three active teams are yet to get their hands on it: Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.
Past success is useful evidence, not a ready-made selection. An auction can reshape half a squad. An overseas signing may miss several weeks, or a captain may use familiar players in unfamiliar roles. Mumbai and Chennai have plainly built winning organisations. That alone does not make either team strongest when the next first ball arrives.
The 2026 structure gave every franchise 14 league games and placed all ten in a single table. It was not a full home-and-away round robin, meaning the list of opponents faced twice varied from team to team.
A victory was worth two points and a no-result usually brought one point apiece. Where totals were level, net run rate provided the tiebreaker. That piece of arithmetic suddenly becomes gripping in the closing week. A side might need not just a win, but a quick chase or a wide winning margin.
Four teams survived the league, with an extra life waiting for the top two. Qualifier 1 sent one of them straight into the final. Third and fourth met in an Eliminator, exactly as unforgiving as its name suggests. Its winner then played the Qualifier 1 loser for the other final berth.
This makes second very different from third. A top-two side can lose once and remain in the hunt; the teams beneath it cannot. We will know whether the same system returns only when the 2027 playing conditions appear, so treat this as the recent format rather than a promise.
The live IPL winner odds should appear above this guide whenever the market is open. Prices can change after an auction, an injury announcement or a run of results, which is why the displayed market should take priority over any number written into static copy.
Outright prices represent the estimated chances of each franchise winning the tournament and determine the potential return. At fractional odds of 4/1, for example, a successful £10 bet would return £50, made up of £40 profit and the original £10 stake.
Shortest does not mean certain. Even a beautifully constructed squad can lose a knockout match in the space of one expensive over. Injuries and availability bring more uncertainty. When an each-way option appears, check its place count and fraction on the market itself rather than carrying assumptions over from another event.
The outright winner is only one way to approach Indian Premier League betting. Market availability changes as the season gets closer, with a broader selection commonly appearing once squads, fixtures and playing XIs become clearer.
An outright bet backs one franchise to win the title. It remains active through the league phase and playoffs unless that team is eliminated. Other season-long markets may cover making the final, reaching the playoffs or finishing top of the league table.
There can also be tournament player awards. Top run scorer and top wicket-taker are the best-known examples, reflecting the Orange Cap and Purple Cap races. Availability matters here. A brilliant player cannot build a tournament total from the bench, so consider his likely role, fitness and international commitments.
Match winner asks which team will take a particular fixture. Some markets may be presented as a two-way contest with tie rules stated separately, so check how a tied or abandoned game will be settled before betting.
Team run totals let you back a franchise to finish over or under a quoted score. Other options may include the highest opening partnership, most match sixes, powerplay runs, fall of the next wicket or runs scored in a specified group of overs.
Venue context matters. A score that feels ten runs short on a tiny ground may be perfectly defendable where the ball grips. Then comes the toss. On dewy evenings, bowling second can become unpleasant once the wet ball starts slipping in a spinner's hand.
Top team batter, sometimes listed as top batsman, is settled on the leading run scorer for one side in a match. The bowling equivalent asks which player takes the most wickets. Player run lines, wicket totals and boundary markets may also be available.
Batting position is easy to overlook. An opener should usually face more deliveries than a finisher, but a late hitter can have a favourable line because his opportunities vary. For bowlers, check who operates in the powerplay and at the death. Those overs bring danger, yet they also create wicket chances.
Those performances will feed into the T20 World Cup betting conversation when an international keeps a similar job for his country. Be more cautious with Cricket World Cup betting odds. Fifty overs demand a different rhythm, and a destructive IPL cameo is not automatically proof of ODI form.
An IPL match can swing in six deliveries. Perhaps a chase needs 55 from 24 balls and one 20-run over makes it manageable. Perhaps two wickets fall instead and the same chase is nearly finished. Live prices move with that tension, taking account of the rate, wickets and batting still available.
Live markets may include the match winner, innings totals, batter runs, next wicket, boundaries and the result of a coming over. Options can be suspended while a ball, wicket or review is resolved. Browse the live betting section to see what is currently open.
Look beyond the headline score. A team chasing 180 may appear behind after ten overs but still possess several finishers and a short boundary on one side. On the other hand, 70/2 is less healthy when both openers and the number three are already back inside.
Begin with who can actually play, not the logo. An injury or international call-up can disturb the whole XI, especially with only four overseas spots. If the reserve offers a different skill set, one missing player may prompt two changes.
Then consider the ground and pitch. Boundary size, pace, bounce, spin and dew can influence both selection and a reasonable par score. Recent games at the same venue are useful, but avoid treating one unusually high total as the new normal.
Player roles matter just as much as raw form. A batter moved from number six to the top three gains more time to score. A bowler trusted with the 18th and 20th overs may concede runs but also meet batters taking risks. Those details are particularly relevant for player totals and top performer markets.
Finally, check the schedule. Travel, short turnarounds and clusters of away games test a squad's depth. Once the playoff race tightens, net run rate may affect tactics as well as qualification.
