Anyone weighing up a bet for the 2026/27 competition should keep that distinction in mind: backing a club to lift the Vase is different from backing them to win inside 90 minutes.

Match Result

The home win, draw and away win are the three options in match result betting. Settlement normally covers 90 minutes plus stoppage time, excluding extra time and penalties.

A team can draw on the afternoon and still go through in the shootout. That does not turn a draw into a winning selection on that team’s 90-minute price. Look for a separately listed to-qualify market if progressing to the next round is the outcome you want to back.

Over and Under Goals

A 2-1 scoreline gives you three goals, enough for an over 2.5 selection to win. At 1-1, you have only two, which makes under 2.5 the winning choice. You are counting goals at both ends, regardless of who gets them.

There is more to researching it than finding a couple of big scores in the form guide. Who conceded those goals? Was that five-goal win against the bottom club, or a side with one of the division’s better defensive records? A look through the home and away results can be more revealing than the headline total.

Both Teams to Score

A goal apiece is what counts here. Back yes and you need both clubs to get on the scoresheet, whether they share the points at 1-1 or one runs away with it 4-1. If either side keeps a clean sheet, the no selection wins.

Match reports can explain the results. Was the usual centre-forward missing from the line-up? You might also discover that a goal came against ten men, which gives the score a little more context. You will want that background when comparing clubs who rarely meet in league football.

Handicap Betting

A handicap applies a starting advantage or disadvantage for settlement purposes. With a three-way handicap, a side backed at -1 must win by at least two goals for that selection to win. A one-goal victory produces the handicap draw.

Take care if you move across to an Asian handicap. Depending on the line, part or all of the stake can be returned, or the bet can be divided between two handicaps. The number beside the team matters as much as the team name.

FA Vase outright betting is about the club that wins the competition. It follows that team’s cup run, rather than settling on the result of its next match.

An appealing price in August can look very different after the draw. An away trip to the league leaders might change your view of a club you fancied a week earlier. So might losing the first-choice goalkeeper. Follow the draw as it happens, rather than judging FA Vase winner odds on league position alone.

Teams at the same Step do not necessarily face the same standard of opposition every week. A long unbeaten run in one regional division is useful background, but it cannot tell the whole story of a meeting with another league’s leading side.

For clubs at Steps 5 and 6 of the National League System, this is their own route to Wembley. We are talking about tiers nine and ten, rather than the National League itself. The Vase has been part of the calendar since 1974.

The early part of the campaign takes clubs through two qualifying rounds before the competition proper. By the third round on 28 November 2026, those still involved can start looking towards the winter fixtures.

The fourth round is pencilled in for 9 January 2027, followed by the fifth on 6 February and the quarter-finals on 6 March. There are two semi-final dates, 3 and 10 April, before the final on 16 May.

Those are the FA’s scheduled round dates. Check the individual fixture before making plans around a Saturday afternoon kick-off, as postponements and rearrangements can change things.
