When & Where is the European Rugby Champions Cup Final?  

The 2025 European Rugby Champions Cup Final will be held at the Principality (Millennium) Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. It will take place on 24 May 2025, with a 14.45 kick-off time. 

This is the sixth time the final will be held in Cardiff, matching the number of finals at London’s Twickenham Stadium.  

Head-to-Head – Northampton v Bordeaux  

Unfortunately, we can’t deduce much from the head-to-head record ahead of this year’s European Rugby Champions Cup Final, as these sides have only met once before.  

Bordeaux and Northampton went head-to-head in the 2020-21 Champions Cup campaign, with the French side edging a hard-fought match 16-12 at Franklin’s Gardens.  

Form & Recent Performances  

As the head-to-head record tells us little, we can look to each side’s domestic and European campaigns for an insight into who will likely win this match in Cardiff.  

With 23 games played, Bordeaux are second in the Top 14 table, some 15 points behind runaway leaders Toulouse. They’ve won 15 of their Top 14 matches this season and look the best of the rest, with Toulouse destined for the title once again.  

In European competition, Bordeaux navigated and won a challenging group, emerging top of Pool 1 ahead of Toulouse and Leicester Tigers. They then beat Ulster, Munster, and Toulouse in the knockout stages to make it to the final.  

Northampton also topped their pool, finishing first ahead of Castres to secure passage into the knockout rounds. They then defeated Clermont, Castres, and Leinster to make it to Cardiff.  

The Saints have had a disappointing domestic campaign, however. With 16 games played, they’re way off the pace and find themselves in eighth position, but they’re in no real danger of being relegated.  

As the current champions, they will be extremely disappointed with their 2024-25 campaign and hope to rectify things with their second Champions Cup triumph when they take on Bordeaux.  

Players to Watch: Henry Pollock & Louis Bielle-Biarrey 

• Henry Pollock has been one of the Saints’ shining lights this season, and his explosive displays have driven his team to the Champions Cup final. The back row scored two tries against Castres in the Saints’ run to the final, and he’s widely regarded as one of the top players in this season’s competition.  
• Louis Bielle-Biarrey, who was awarded the 2025 Player of the Six Nations, is Bordeaux’s star man. He scored a pair of incredible tries against Toulouse in the semi-final, and the 21-year-old winger looks set to play a starring role in Cardiff.
