Premier League Top Scorer Odds

The EPL Golden Boot has always been a popular betting market at talkSPORT BET. As we have seen over the years, the biggest teams do not always produce the league’s top scorer, but Erling Haaland and Mo Salah have been prolific in the past few campaigns, ensuring that the Golden Boot winner also ended the season as a Premier League champion.

Who is the Leading Premier League Top Scorer?

Liverpool’s Egyptian forward Mo Salah had a brilliant Premier League season in 2024/25, ending the campaign with 29 goals to secure the Golden Boot. The Egyptian has won the accolade four times in his glittering career and is now the fourth top scorer in PL history.

It was also a brilliant season for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who finished second in the race for the Golden Boot with 23 goals. He played four fewer games than Salah, so he might have pushed him closer if he hadn’t been injured for a month. Isak has now joined Mo Salah in Liverpool’s front line, after moving to Merseyside in a record £125 million deal.

The 2023/24 Golden Boot winner, Erling Haaland, managed 22 goals in 31 games in a disappointing season for Manchester City. Even though City ended the season without a major trophy, Haaland might have won the Golden Boot had he not missed seven games due to injury.

Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood also had a magnificent season as his side qualified for Europe, thanks mainly to the Kiwi international’s 20 goals. In doing so, he became only the second Forest player in PL history (following Stan Collymore) to score 20+ goals in the top flight.

Who is the Favourite to Win Premier League Top Scorer?

City’s goal machine Haaland was disappointed with his output last term and started the new campaign like a man possessed. He’s the frontrunner to win the Golden Boot this term.

Following a long injury layoff and after his club sold Bryan Mbeumo and Yoan Wissa in the summer of 2025, Brentford’s Igor Thiago stepped up to the plate at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, scoring eight in his first 11 appearances.

Antoine Semenyo of Brentford, Jean Phillipe Mateta of Palace, and Danny Welbeck of Brighton all made promising goal-scoring starts to the season, but they’ll all need to be at their brilliant best if they’re to catch Haaland, who has rediscovered his best form.

Salah and Isak haven’t started the campaign as well as they might have liked, and have much ground to make up if they’re to repeat their goal-scoring feats of last season.

What is the Premier League Goal Scoring Record?

When Erling Haaland landed in Manchester at the start of the 2022/23 season, few could imagine how many goals he would score in his first year in England. Many players take a while to adjust to the pace of the Premier League, but Haaland took to the league with aplomb.

He scored 36 goals in the EPL in a treble-winning season for Manchester City, which made him the record holder for the most goals ever scored in one season in his first EPL campaign.

Before Haaland’s arrival, the record was jointly held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, who had both notched 34 goals in a single year in the English Premier League.

Elsewhere in the North-West, Salah recently equalled Thierry Henry’s record of holding four EPL Golden Boots, a record he hopes to secure outright before leaving Anfield.

All-time Premier League Goalscorers

Alan Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer, with 260 goals. This is despite two serious injuries that ruled him out for a considerable time during his career. Many think he would be nearer the 300 mark if not for these injuries.

Though Shearer is a Newcastle United legend, he never won major silverware with the Toon Army, and his single Premier League winners’ medal came during his time with Blackburn Rovers. Still, he’s widely regarded as the Premier League’s top marksman and one of the greatest strikers in football history.

But who joins Shearer in the PL Hall of Fame? Here’s a list of the top 10 Premier League goal scorers of all time, with significant recent movement by Mo Salah, who is now in the top five:

Before his move to Bayern Munich, many thought that Harry Kane would beat Alan Shearer’s record if he remained at Tottenham. While he might come back to the EPL one day, Salah is now the likeliest player to break Shearer’s record.

Premier League Betting Tips

The Premier League is the most-watched football league in the world. You can bet on Premier League markets – like top goalscorer – at talkSPORT BET. If you’re planning to bet on the action this season, here are some top tips to bear in mind:

Do Your Research

Research is crucial to any betting strategy, and when you bet on the English Premier League, you need to look into the teams and players you’re betting on. Some players love playing against specific teams and notch most of their goals against a single opponent.

For instance, 21 of Alan Shearer’s 260 PL goals came against Leeds, while 19 came against Spurs. Knowing who a player loves scoring against can help you include them on your betting slip.

Check for injuries

When betting on the Premier League’s top scorer market, checking for injuries is vital. If any of the guys at the top of the scoring charts suffer a season-ending injury with only a few games left, it essentially rules them out of the Golden Boot running.

Gamble Responsibly

When betting on the Golden Boot and other markets at talkSPORT BET, please do so responsibly. Responsible gambling is about setting your limits and staying in control as you place your wagers.
