After securing their first trophy in over half a century and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for a second time in three years in 2024/25, Newcastle United endured a disappointing campaign in 2025/26.
Alexander Isak’s protracted departure to Liverpool in the summer seemed to derail the Magpies, and Newcastle never really got going in this campaign, eventually finishing in 12th place, their lowest since Eddie Howe took over.
We introduce you to Newcastle United odds and betting options for the 2026/27 season at talkSPORT BET Sportsbook.
Newcastle United kick off the 2026/27 campaign as the joint eighth favourites for the Premier League title. You can back them at 66/1* if you think they will win the title this year.
As we saw last season, Newcastle are in a tough situation. They are backed by all the money in the world, but they’re struggling to spend it, due to PSR constraints. Several big names have left the Northeast for pastures new in recent times, and Eddie Howe will be hoping that the replacements he has brought in will enable him to once again challenge at the top end of the table.

After the 2024/25 campaign was probably the best in Newcastle United’s long history, 2025/26 was a bit of a reality check.
The season got off to a bad start with Alexander Isak finally securing a British record transfer to Liverpool, managing to destabilise Newcastle’s entire summer in the process. With hindsight, Newcastle would have been better letting Isak go earlier in the summer for less money, but they had to deal with the consequences of an unsettled and unbalanced squad going into the first few games of the season.
On the field, Newcastle only won one of their first six fixtures, scoring just three goals in the process and highlighting just how much they missed Isak. Things improved in November as the new players settled in, and Newcastle lost only two of 11 matches from late November until late January.
But domestically, Newcastle’s biggest letdown, in the eyes of their fans, was the two defeats to Sunderland, their fierce local rivals. Many managers wouldn’t have survived such disappointing performances against Sunderland, but Eddie Howe had enough credit in the bank to see him through to the end of the campaign.
In Europe, at least, Newcastle put on a respectable show until the round of 16, in which they were resoundingly beaten 8-3 on aggregate by Barcelona.
In the domestic cups, Newcastle were dumped out of both competitions by Manchester City, losing in the FA Cup round five and the EFL Cup semi-finals.
While, historically at least, this wouldn’t have been a terrible season for Newcastle, the expectations on Tyneside are now very different. Losing to their rivals twice and finishing in the bottom half of the table was very disappointing for most Newcastle fans.
That said, with some new signings in the door and a major reshuffle in the playing department, 2026/27 could be a better campaign for the Toon Army, who will also be looking to go deep into the domestic cups without any European football as a distraction.
