The Giro d’Italia is one of the world’s most famous cycling races and is one of three Grand Tours. It occurs annually in May and features numerous gruelling stages over the Alps, making it a visually stunning tour to watch live.
Here, we introduce you to the Giro d’Italia betting options and markets and inform you of everything you need to know about this 3,400 km race before betting on cycling at talkSPORT BET Sportsbook.
The Giro d’Italia runs throughout May annually. In 2025, it will be contested between May 9th and June 1st over a distance of 3,413 kilometres.
The Giro d’Italia’s route changes each year, but the format stays the same: at least two time trials and nineteen gruelling mountain and hilly rides across the Alps and through various towns and cities. Most stages occur in Italy, but the Giro d’Italia also enters Albania, Slovenia, and the Vatican City.
It always occurs across three weeks and is split into 21 stages. It’s one of three Grand Tours in cycling, alongside the Tour de France and Vuelta a España.
The cyclists competing in the Giro d’Italia battle it out for the maglia rosa (pink jersey), this race’s equivalent to the Tour de France’s famous yellow jersey.
If a cyclist wins the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France, and the Tour Championships, they win cycling’s Triple Crown, a rare feat that’s exceedingly difficult to achieve.
In 2024, Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar was the first man to win the Triple Crown since 1987, but he won’t repeat the feat in 2025, as he is sitting out this year’s race.

Twenty-three teams are invited to enter Giro d’Italia. Eighteen of these teams are the UCI WorldTeams, while five UCI ProTeams will join the pack. The following teams will compete in the 2025 race:
World number one and 2024 Triple Crown winner Tadej Pogačar would have been the one to watch this year, but he has announced that he won’t be riding across Italy. The UAE Team Emirates rider has been top of the pile for a while now and is the best cyclist in the world by a distance.
Given that Pogačar won’t be riding, his compatriot Primož Roglič is among the favourites, while Juan Ayuso and Adam Yates are also in good shape. Check out the full and current odds for the Giro d’Italia 2025 above.
In cycling, competitors can win the general classification (the entire race) and individual stages. Both are impressive achievements, but every cyclist hopes to win at least one general classification to write their name into the history books.
Only three cyclists have won the Giro d’Italia five times: Alfredo Binda, Fausto Coppi, and Eddy Merckx. Coppi, regarded as one of the greatest cyclists of all time, was the youngest man to win the race when he secured victory as a 20-year-old in 1940.
Slovenian riders Primož Roglič and Tadej Pogačar won the 2023 and 2024 races, respectively, and the former is among the favourites in 2025. Below are the details of the previous ten winners of this famous race:
Year | Winner | Team |
