2025 will be the 21st edition of Premier League Darts, with this year’s iteration scheduled to run from Thursday, 6th February to Thursday, 29th May 2025. The first match will take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
This tournament, which will be known as BetMGM Premier League Darts in 2025, will take in 17 different venues across Europe, with the playoffs being contested at the bustling O2 Arena in London.
Eight players will contest the 2025 Premier League, including seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen and teenage sensation Luke Littler, who will be defending his crown after winning on his debut last year.
But what path has Premier League Darts taken since its inception, and which players have been most successful in the competition?
The History of Premier League Darts
Premier League Darts launched on January 20th, 2005, as one of several new darts tournaments to be broadcast live on Sky Sports. The competition follows a league and playoff format, with the champions being determined in a showpiece final (now at the O2 Arena).
The first iterations ran from February to May, while the tournament originally featured seven competitors (this number increased to 10 by 2013 before being reduced again to eight in 2022).
Unsurprisingly, the legendary Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen have dominated the league stage of the Premier League, with the ‘Power’ topping the table for each of the first eight editions.
As for Dutchman van Gerwen, he finished first in the next seven iterations of Premier League Darts between 2013 and 2019, while seven different players have topped the league stage since 2005.
However, there have been eight different Premier League champions overall, while the winners of the league stage have gone on to prevail in the showpiece playoff final on 13 separate occasions, Littler doing so in his incredible debut win last year.
Who are the Previous Winners of Premier League Darts?
Van Gerwen remains the single most successful player in the tournament’s history, winning seven Premier League titles overall (from nine finals) and four consecutively between 2016 and 2019. He has also won the previous two finals, defeating Joe Cullen in 2022 and league winner Gerwyn Price 11-5 at the O2 Arena last year.
Next on the competition’s roll of honour is Phil Taylor, who remains one of just two other players to have won multiple Premier League crowns (alongside two-time champion Gary Anderson).
During his career, Taylor prevailed on six different occasions, reaching eight finals in total and winning the league stage eight times. As for the ‘Flying Scotsman’ Anderson, he has a 100% winning record in playoff finals, claiming the title on two occasions despite never topping the league stage.
Littler has added his name to this prestigious list, securing his first league win and Premier League title in 2024.
He topped the 2024 table with 40 points and went on to win the title with an 11-7 final victory over Luke Humphries, who finished second in the league phase.
Here’s our summary of the previous PL Darts winners:

| Gary Anderson | 2 | 2 | 0 |

| Glen Durrant | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Jonny Clayton | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Luke Littler | 1 | 1 | 1 |
Who are the Most Likely Winners in 2025?
As usual, the 2025 Premier League Darts tournament will comprise the top four players in the PDC Order of Merit, ranked by prize money over the course of the previous two years. Right now, those players are:
| Position | Name | Prize Money |
| 1 | Luke Humphries | £1,804,250 |
| 2 | Luke Littler | £1,118,500 |
| 3 | Michael van Gerwen | £815,500 |
| 4 | Rob Cross | £551,750 |
The remaining places will be taken by four wildcard selections, recently named as Nathan Aspinall, Stephen Bunting, Chris Dobey, and Gerwyn Price.
Interestingly, aside from first-time champion Littler, only one of these players (van Gerwen) has ever won the PL Darts title, although Gerwyn Price did win the league stage and was runner-up in 2023.
The defending champion, Littler, is our pre-tournament favourite with odds of 5/4*. Let’s take a look at who might win this year’s Premier League Darts:
1: Luke Littler – 5/4*
Darts sensation and new British superstar Littler is our favourite to win the 2025 Premier League after an exceptional breakthrough season into the professional game.
He currently sits second in the Order of Merit after securing over £1,000,000 in prize money over the past 24 months, and his rise to the top has been astronomical.
At just 17, Littler has already won the World Series Finals (2024), the Premier League (2024), the Grand Slam (2024) and the World Championship (2025).
If he wins the Premier League again in 2025, he could be the long-awaited heir to the Power’s throne and may just become one of the greatest darts players of all time if his career continues on its upward trajectory.
2: Luke Humphries – 3/1*
Humphries might have given up the spotlight to his namesake in recent times, but he’s still one of the top players at the height of his powers.
Cool Hand Luke is the current world number one and he has six PDC premier event titles to his name. His best finish in the Premier League came in 2024 when he finished second in the final to Luke Littler.
We envisage a battle of the Lukes at this year’s Premier League Darts and we expect both men to make it to the business-end of the tournament.
3: Michael van Gerwen – 6/1*
Van Gerwen is the third favourite to win the 2025 PL Darts title with talkSPORT BET, and there’s no doubt he has an incredible pedigree in the competition.
He won on his debut way back in 2013, which precipitated a sequence of five Premier League titles in seven seasons (and an unprecedented four-in-a-row between 2016 and 2019). He also returned to winning ways in 2022 and 2023 and will be looking to challenge both Lukes in the final stages.
While his recent form has been mixed, you can never rule out van Gerwen, who has a record seven PL titles to his name.
4: Gerwyn Price – 12/1*
Price was the 2023 runner-up in the Premier League; his best-ever finish in the competition. His last PDC premier win came in the 2022 World Series, so he will be looking to improve in the final stages of tournaments, as he struggles to get over the line.
Price is undoubtedly the best of the rest, and his price of 12/1* makes him a decent outside bet, particularly due to his experience and undoubted quality.
