We’re off to Kempton this evening for five rides. Starting off with Bint Mahar for William Knight in the fillies novice race, a Frankel filly. Two pretty decent runs in Maidens so far, it is getting better with racing, but it could be going for its third run to get a handicap mark. It looks like a nice filly, but when she starts stepping up in distance in the future, I think it’s going to see her in a better light, but I would expect a decent enough run.
In the 630, we ride Giant for Richard Spencer, course and distance winner and it’s very consistent on the all weather. I was second on him three runs ago over course and distance. He is a very solid horse, off a career high mark around 83, but he makes his own luck. He puts himself up on the speed, so he’s going to give himself every chance. Definitely got a chance.
Then we arrive at Dutch Kingdom for Daryl Holland, course and distance winner, very consistent on the all weather, been mixing it up with some turf runs lately. Not a bad turf run last start. Back on the all weather on his favourite surface, I could see Dutch Kingdom coming from a good draw and I think he can run better than his odds of 14/1.
We then followed on with Damascus Steel. he is a course and distance winner, but I’ve won on him on the turf before around Windsor, 2lb lower than last two runs, career high mark, but he’s very tough and he stays very well. So he can definitely run well if the race is run to suit him.
Sophar Sogood in the last for Johnny Butler. A very good second last time out when I rode him, he’s a course and distance winner, he loves the all weather. He’s lower than the handicap mark than he was when he won two years ago.
So in the last, Sophar Sogood from a good draw, solid horse, not a very strong race, I think he’s going to take a bit of beating, so hopefully we’ll have another good day.
