Sheffield United v Leeds United Preview, Betting Options & Markets

Posted on February 19, 2025February 19, 2025 By Kane Forster

Date: Monday 24th February 2025
Time: 20.00 GMT
Location: Bramall Lane, Sheffield
Odds: Sheffield United 3/1* – Draw 23/10* – Leeds United 17/20*

Bramall Lane will host the biggest game of the Championship season so far as Leeds United come to town in this mouth-watering clash between the top two teams in the division.

If Leeds leave Sheffield with all three points, they will likely push on and run away with the title. However, if Chris Wilder’s hard-working Blades can beat Leeds, they will fancy their chances of securing the title at the end of this season.

With so much at stake, read our Sheffield United v Leeds United preview and learn how to bet on this crunch clash today at talkSPORT BET Sportsbook.

Sheffield United v Leeds United Betting Tips

  • Leeds have a good recent record against Sheffield United, winning four of the last five meetings between the two. Leeds have also won on their last two visits to Bramall Lane, securing 1-0 victories on each occasion. We fancy Leeds to win again this time around. Consider backing them to win 1-0 for a third successive time, at odds of 5/1* at talkSPORT BET.
  • This isn’t the best fixture for the both teams to score wager. In fact, both teams have scored in only one of the last five meetings between the two, which occurred in Leeds’ 2-1 win at Elland Road in April 2021. While anything is possible in football, betting on both teams not to score in this match could be a good option if recent history is anything to go by.
  • Leeds have been excellent on the road in the Championship this season. Their most recent defeat came in a 1-0 loss at Ewood Park against Blackburn in November. It’s further evidence that Leeds are the favourites ahead of this match, even though Sheffield United are always tough to beat at Bramall Lane.

This Fixture in History

Sheffield United and Leeds United have met 85 times over the years since their first match in November 1924. The teams are evenly matched over the years. Leeds have won 33 games, while the Blades have won 29. There have been 23 draws.

Leeds definitely have the upper hand in recent matches, winning four of the last five against the Blades in their meetings in the Championship and Premier League. Given that these two teams are going toe to toe at the top of the Championship, we expect a hard-fought game with one or two goals between them at the end of 90 minutes.

Sheffield United Man to Watch: Gustavo Hamer

Gus Hamer is Sheffield United’s most important player and has established himself as a firm favourite among the Bramall Lane faithful since his move from Coventry City. The Dutchman is United’s top scorer this season, scoring seven league goals, and he has also laid on five assists in his 29 Championship matches so far this campaign.

Fellow midfielder Callum O’Hare has also enjoyed a productive season for the Blades, topping the team’s assist chart by laying on six goals for his teammates. Hamer and O’Hare will be crucial to the Blades’ chances as Leeds United come to town.

Leeds United Man to Watch: Daniel James

We were tempted to include Pascal Struijk as Leeds’ key man ahead of this one, given his goal against the Blades earlier this season and his dramatic late winner last week against Sunderland. But Dan James has had a brilliant campaign, scoring ten goals with six assists.

The Welshman has shown much of the promise he failed to deliver regularly at Manchester United, and he’s one of Leeds’ most dangerous forward players. Leeds’ top scorer, Joel Piroe, will also be keen to find the net against the Blades to add to his 14 league goals.
