It’s the start of another week of trials heading towards the Derby. We got the Chester May meeting but I’m going to Kempton in the evening for four rides.
Starting off with Falmouth Boy for Tony Carroll. Been running quite consistent in the order lately. Young, lightly raced. Ran really well with me last start over six. I think the step up to seven is positive, so he definitely goes in there with a chance. He’s still learning, but I think he’s got improvement to come.
Then we go in the novice with Atlantis Blue. Been running over further but been quite keen in these races. So, we’re hoping that coming back to seven, which is a drastic drop in trip, will do the Oracle bit of a question mark, but we’ll see. But it’s a very competitive race and if the comeback in distance does suit, then definitely, definitely he can run a big race.
Then we get on Giant for Richard Spencer. Loves the all-weather, been running quite consistent, course and distance went over 7 furlongs on the all-weather two starts back, and a very solid running handicap last start. He’s got to carry top weight, but he’s got a good draw. Likes attacking style so he definitely goes in there with a chance. That’s Giant.
And then we finish off last with Night Bear for Tony Carroll. Last three runs were all placed runs, drawn a little bit wide. But this horse has tumbled down the weights a long way, 20 lbs plus. So, he could be recapturing his form now. A 7 year old but still got life in his legs yet so I’m hoping that now he’s down to such a low mark that he can take advantage tonight.
