Manchester United v Manchester City Preview & Betting Options

Posted on April 4, 2025April 4, 2025 By Kane Forster

Date: Sunday 6th April 2025
Time: 16.30 GMT
Location: Old Trafford, Manchester
Odds: Manchester United 11/5* – Draw 13/5* – Manchester City 21/20*

Both Manchester teams have endured a tough season and will be looking forward to the summer when Ruben Amorim and Pep Guardiola can work on their squads.

But before a close-season overhaul can take place in the Northwest of England, United and City must battle it out on the pitch in the second Manchester Derby.

United won the first meeting earlier this season with a stunning late comeback at the Etihad, and they will be keen to secure only their second Premier League double over City in 15 years.

Here, we look ahead to the Manchester Derby on April 6th and discover your Premier League betting options at talkSPORT BET Sportsbook.

Manchester United v Manchester City Betting Tips

  • Manchester City have a good recent record against Manchester United at Old Trafford. In the last five meetings between these two rivals at Old Trafford, City have won three and drawn one. United’s only recent home victory over their city rivals came in a 2-1 Premier League victory in January 2023. So, if recent history is anything to go by, we expect City to win this one.
  • If you’re planning a both teams to score accumulator this weekend, the Manchester Derby is a good option. Both teams have scored in eight of the last nine Manchester Derbies in all competitions. Moreover, in these nine games, at least three goals have been scored in all but one, with an average of 3.88 goals per game. So, betting on over 2.5 or 3.0 goals being scored could be a good shout.
  • Erling Haaland loves a goal against almost every team in the Premier League, but he particularly loves playing against United. The Norwegian has bagged five goals in his eight matches against United, so consider backing him as the first or anytime scorer in this fixture.

This Fixture in History

Manchester United have the upper hand in 195 meetings between these two fierce rivals, with 80 victories. City have 62 wins and there have been 53 draws.

However, since Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford in May 2013, United’s noisy neighbours have often secured the bragging rights.

In all competitions since the Scot’s departure, there have been 30 Manchester Derbies. City have won 16 and United have won 11. There have been three draws.

So, although United can still claim historic supremacy over City, they have struggled in this fixture since their legendary Scottish manager left the club.

Manchester United Man to Watch: Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes and arguably Amad Diallo before his injury are the only two Manchester United players with pass marks this term. The United captain has been imperious, and without his goal contributions, United would probably be in a relegation battle. The Portuguese midfielder has scored eight goals and provided ten assists.

He has already scored against City this season and would love nothing more than to fire his team to victory at Old Trafford this weekend.

Manchester City Man to Watch: Omar Marmoush

While Erling Haaland is still the main man at the Etihad, Omar Marmoush has impressed since arriving in Manchester in January. The Egyptian forward has four Premier League goals, and he scored the winner against Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Marmoush has 25 goals and 15 assists for the season, following an impressive first half of the campaign in the Bundesliga. If he finishes the season as strongly as he started it, he will surely help City qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
