What is the James Bond Roulette Strategy? Can 007 Beat the House?

Posted on January 29, 2024January 29, 2024 By Rachel Stuart

Though 007 is known to prefer sipping his vodka martinis while playing baccarat, he has also dabbled in roulette on the big screen.

With that in mind, what is the James Bond roulette strategy? Can it help you win? Read on for talkSPORT BET’s guide to the James Bond roulette strategy and discover if Ian Fleming’s MI6 agent knows something that you don’t about this legendary table game.

007’s Strategy: The Basics

The James Bond roulette strategy is what is known as a flat betting approach. In other words, you must bet the same amount every time you play, contrasting popular progressive betting strategies like the Martingale system.

To follow the James Bond strategy, you must bet 20 units of your choice (let’s say £20 to keep things simple here). You also need to play European Roulette, which consists of 36 numbered red/black pockets and a single green zero pocket.

European Roulette is the most popular roulette variant, as it has the lowest house edge of all roulette games, sitting at just 2.70%. You need to play European Roulette with the James Bond strategy because there is only one zero. In American roulette, there are two green pockets for zero, which makes the 007 approach impossible.

The Bet

When you’ve set up at the European Roulette table, you can then place the following wagers to follow the James Bond betting strategy:

  • £14 (or 14 units) = outside bet 19-36 – potential payout of 1:1.
  • £5 (or 5 units) = inside bet 13-14-15-16-17-18 (6-line bet) – potential payout of 5:1.
  • £1 (or 1 unit) = inside bet 0 (single zero) – potential payout of 35:1.

Remember, you need to bet with 20 units for this bet to work, so we have assumed a £20 stake in the example above. You can adjust the total bet to £2 or £200, should your bankroll allow. Simply adjust the stake for each bet relative to the total of your wager.

The Logic

As you can see, the bulk of the wager in the James Bond strategy is placed on the outside bet. This is because it is more likely to come in than either of the inside bets, theoretically meaning you’re more likely to win each time the croupier spins the wheel.

At the other end of the betting spectrum in the James Bond strategy, just 1 unit is wagered on the single zero bet, as it’s the most unlikely wager at the roulette table. Given the numbers covered in this strategy, here’s what you can potentially win or lose each time you play:

  • If the number is 19-36, you would profit £8 from your £20 total wager.
  • If the number is 13-18, you would profit £10.
  • If the number is 0, you would profit £16.
  • If the number is 1-12, you would lose £20.

Does the James Bond Roulette Strategy Guarantee Wins?

As you can see, the logic behind the James Bond betting strategy is impressive, and it enables you to place bets at the roulette table methodically rather than just randomly picking numbers.

However, it’s important to recognise that the James Bond strategy does not guarantee wins.

Roulette is a game of chance, and you can win or lose every time the croupier spins the wheel. The number that the wheel lands on is pure luck, and it can be the same or different from spin to spin.

For instance, you might get lucky while employing the James Bond strategy and see five wins on the bounce via numbers 19-36. Alternatively, you might land five numbers between 0-12 in a row, losing your bet each time.

The key thing to remember here is to gamble responsibly and always bet within your means. Responsible betting applies to all casino games and sports betting, and you should only ever gamble what you can afford to lose.
