Ally McCoist’s Net Worth – How Much is the Former Rangers Star Worth Today?

Posted on February 10, 2025February 10, 2025 By Armin Kianmehr

Rangers fans know Ally McCoist as “Super Ally,” the club’s goalscoring legend from the 1980s and 1990s. He was also the assistant manager to Walter Smith in his second spell at Ibrox and took the helm himself when Rangers were relegated to the lower leagues for financial reasons.

The rest of us, however, know McCoist as the most enthusiastic football commentator in the world. He’s loved by all and is an expert analyst. He’s also one of the talkSPORT breakfast hosts and an ambassador for talkSPORT BET.

So, in this article, we consider Ally McCoist’s net worth. We investigate his salary as a professional footballer, coach, and manager and consider how much he earns as a commentator and analyst.

What is Ally McCoist’s Net Worth? 2025 Projection

As of 2025, Ally McCoist’s main source of income is his company, RT 1872. He named it after the founding of Rangers Football Club in 1872, the team that Ally played for with distinction and has supported his entire life.

Statistics published in 2024 show that McCoist’s RT 1872 has the following1:

  • An investment portfolio worth £1,737,796
  • £508,404 cash held in the account
  • £1,078,599 owed by debtors

This gives McCoist’s company £3,324,799 in total assets, highlighting that McCoist is worth at least £3 million at the time of writing.

That said, he also owns property and earns a salary from his various media positions, so we can assume that, in addition to RT 1872, McCoist has numerous other sources that contribute to his net worth, which is likely to be somewhere between £5 million and £10 million in 2025.

McCoist’s Successful Career in Football – Rangers’ All-Time Record Goalscorer

McCoist’s professional football career started at St Johnstone before a £400,000 transfer to Sunderland. Though he only managed eight league goals in 56 appearances for the Black Cats, it was enough to convince Rangers to pay £185,000 for his services in 1983.

Given that Super Ally would go on to score 251 league goals in 418 appearances for Scotland’s most successful football team, it must go down as one of the greatest transfer dealings in Scottish history.

McCoist spent 15 years at Ibrox, winning ten league titles – including the famous nine in a row – numerous cup titles, and a range of personal accolades that cemented his place as one of Rangers’ greatest ever players.

He saw out his career at Kilmarnock, notching nine goals in 53 league appearances at Rugby Park. In his final professional game, he helped Kilmarnock to a 1-0 win over Celtic, securing UEFA Cup qualification for his side.

McCoist in the Dugout – How Much Did Ally Earn as the Rangers Manager?

While we don’t have any data showing McCoist’s earnings as a player, we do know how much he earned as a manager at Ibrox.

He returned to Ibrox as Walter Smith’s assistant manager, a role he held from 2007 to 2011. He was then appointed Rangers manager for the 2011-12 season. He was in charge when Rangers were demoted to the Third Division, an act that all but handed Celtic the 2011-12 title, which Ally would have surely won without the ten-point deduction.

He then oversaw two promotions in charge of Rangers, winning the Third Division and Scottish League One, before leaving his post in the 2014-15 season.

McCoist was paid £750,000 per year as the manager of Rangers, a significant amount for the three full seasons that he was in charge2. These earnings contributed significantly to McCoist’s net worth after calling time on his football career.

Ally’s Media Career – Predicted Earnings from His Numerous Media Roles since the Early 2000s

Toward the end of his playing career, McCoist was a popular member of the A Question of Sport panel, making 363 appearances on the show. As a result, he also worked for the BBC as a sports pundit for numerous events, including World Cup 1998.

He appeared in a 2000 movie called A Shot at Glory, which featured Hollywood legend Robert Duvall. While we don’t know McCoist’s fee for the film, it went on to be reasonably successful and will have contributed to his net worth.

From 2010 onwards, McCoist has been a fixture in football broadcasting, working for ITV, ESPN, TNT Sports, BT Sports, and talkSPORT. He is also one of the main commentators for Amazon Prime’s English Premier League coverage.

Much of Ally’s earnings from his media work are represented in his RT 1872 firm and are his primary earnings today. Given his incredible popularity among the British public, it’s evident that Ally’s prominence as a pundit and commentator will continue long into the future.

The Verdict: What is Ally McCoist’s Net Worth in 2025?

We estimate that Ally McCoist’s 2025 net worth is between £5 million and £10 million. This is due to a highly successful football career as a player and manager. As manager of Rangers, he earned £750,000 per year.

Moreover, we know his company, RT 1872, will be worth over £3 million in 2025. We also know that McCoist is handsomely paid for his various media roles with Amazon Prime, talkSPORT, and TNT Sports, among others. The Scotsman also has various properties in Scotland, which significantly add to his net worth.

There’s also the 2000 movie that has undoubtedly contributed to McCoist’s earnings over the years. So, even though Super Ally didn’t play during a time when football players earned ludicrous amounts of money as in today’s market, the Rangers legend is certainly doing well for himself and boasts a high net worth in 2025.
